Socktoberfest and Me
Because it's Socktoberfest, I thought I'd answer questionnaire that Lolly had up on her blog.
When did you start making socks? Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class?
I made my first pair of socks this past February and there's been no stopping me since. I took a class at my LYS, my Christmas gift from B. Actually, I'd tried taking the class twice before and things didn't work out. The first time, there weren't enough people signed up and the second time I was out of town for the second class, so I didn't sign up.
What was your first pair? How have they "held up" over time?
My first pair was made with Sockotta, 45% cotton, 40% Superwash Wool and 15% Nylon in bright pink and yellow. They're holding up great! Then again, they're only 8 months old and I've worn them maybe a half dozen times.
What would you have done differently?
I would have stuck the U.S. size 2 dpn's I'd brought rather than the size 3's they recommended after swatching.
What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?
All of them, so far. Well, the Paton's Kroy maybe not so much, it seemed harsh to work with, but made a nice fabric after being washed. I think the nicest yarn I've had the chance to use was the Claudia's Hand Painted that was donated to the Socks for Soldiers group.
Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method?
I a DPN kinda gal. Haven't tried socks on 2 circulars, or the Magic Loop yet, but both are on my list of must try. Crochet? Never say never, but I think not.
Which kind of heel do you prefer? (flap? or short-row?)
So far, I've only done flaps.
How many pairs have you made?
16 pairs and 3 pairs on the needles. Whew! That's a lot of socks in 8 months!
