Socks For Soldiers
This spring I joined a Yahoo group called Socks for Soldiers. Kim's long term dream is to gather 100,000 pairs of handknit socks to send to our troops overseas. Her short term goal is send 500 pairs by the end of October.I finished my 2nd pair of BIG BLACK SOCKS today, this is actually a picture of the first pair. The second pair has a 3x3 ribbing all the way down to the heel. I used Paton's Kroy sock yarn for both pairs and I have enough yarn to make another pair (I ordered 10 balls and will probably have one left over). The scary part was tossing them into the washing machine and washing them in HOT water, then tossing them into the dryer. I was SO afraid to look at them, but I had to wash them in the conditions that they'll be washed in over in Iraq or Afghanistan. When I pulled them out of the dryer, they looked like they'd shrunk quite a bit in the foot, however, when I tried them on, they fit just fine. YAY!
I also scored 11 balls of Lily Chin Gramercy yarn at the Needlework Unlimited Outlet Store. The great thing about this store is that you never know what they'll have on any given weekend.
To take a break from all that BLACK, I made up a pair of slippers to send along. They're made out of Lionbrand Homespun and Fun Fur, quick and easy.
